Should I defense myself by self-representation?  It is also wrong to assume that the defendant will be successful only with the attorney; I would say that there is still a good chance of making a successful challenge in the court without the guidance of the defense attorney. But in most of the cases it is really sensible to hire a defense attorney to represent your case, since his professional experience and expert understanding of the case would make the difference of winning and loosing the challenge. Hence it will be a wise suggestion that if there is no confusion in your mind, then you can self represents the case, or else it is always better to get guidance of the attorney in approaching the judicial process. Though it will be costing some money, it can surly bring down the stress levels.
